in lerv with the hut

as in loving hut, the pollen yellow cart that hangs out in front of the roundhouse in yaletown (davie & pacific), thursdays through saturdays.

i don’t know how many times i’ve been there, but their veg burgs are seriously guilty good vegan eating.  everyone i’ve taken there has ooohed, aaahed, and, afterward, unabashedly wiped drippy sauce from their clothes and chins (perhaps loving hut should offer bibs?).  and  i do mean everyone:  vegans, veggies, omnis, and dyed-in-the-wool carnis.  jimbob, a carni, loves the bacon cheeseburg and the bbq onion ring burg.  mum and aunty d, omnis, are smitten with the teriyaki burg (i think it’s the grilled pineapple).  j-bum, a veggie, dreams of their crispy chick’n burg AND the grilled mushroom cheese burg. i feel guilty enough eating here, so i usually go for the gluten-free options:  either the spicy or the mushroom burg.

this particular trip, i went for broke (*insert guilt and shame here*):  the bacon cheeseburger.  as you can see, it’s filled with gooey sauce (cheezy nooch, ketchup, mustard, vegenaise), so of course, i got it on my pants when i took the first bite.  the bcb is a messy delight, but i keep hoping that one day, i’ll find a dill pick nestled between the patty and the entire pack of veg bac they stuff into the bun.

one more note:  just cos it’s vegan doesn’t mean it’s healthy, and these burgers attest to that fact.  i usually drink 2.5 to 3 litres of water per day, but when i scarf down here, i drink another 1 or 1.5 litres because i’m completely parched about half an hour later.  curses, sodium!

and now, off to boot camp i go…

confession

the following veg burg pics & write-ups are in a queue in my mobile. i’ve been too lazy to write & post as i’ve eaten my way through schmeks & mountains of crunch, flavour, blandness, and the like, so i’ll get on it now. have yet to find a veg burg in hrvatska, but the hunt continues.

no, that’s not a burg i ate; it’s one of homegrown smokers (mississippi square in portland, oregon – go visit & stuff your face) creations. i dream of their messes of veganesque perfection in a land filled with things i cannot eat. on my way, guys.

actual veg burg love

made it to the naam again and hallelujah, i actually ordered a veg burg – the california burg platter to be specific.

’twas a big pile/mess/smudge of scrumptiousness: brown rice patty, glob of guac atop a layer of daiya moz, tomato & cuke slices, salad, and sesame potato wedgies with miso gravy.

missing: dill pick.

burg fail

soooo…chose the naam to start veggie burger challenge.  saw the gold dragon on the menu and had to go with my usual, so miserably failed on the burger bit.  the gold dragon, however, was ridiculous, as usual (yes, vegan – see that crunchy daiya bit on the edge of the bowl?!).

veggie burger next time…but this bowl is the best!!!
